SOCIAL POLICIES


MARRIAGE POLICY


A. Policy Objectives:
  • 1. To promote decency and piety while reducing chances for adultery and fornication.
  • 2. To preserve simplicity, modesty and affordability of marriages
  • 3. To prevent innovations and pollution of marriage rites by ideas that are foreign to Islam.

B. Policy Statement:
Al Usrah Inc. shall actively promote the institution of Nikkah as commanded in the glorious Qur’an and exemplified by the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

C. Policy Implications:
  • 1. We shall promote decent interactions among brothers and sisters
  • 2. We shall support empowerment programmes to enhance ability to marry.
  • 3. We shall encourage pre-marital guidance and counseling.
  • 4. We shall recognize and officiate only in Nikkah that have the blessings of the Muslim parents or guardians.
  • 5. We shall not officiate in Nikkah wherein the bride is obviously or otherwise confirmed pregnant. However, such couple shall be counseled according to the principle of Islam on the next step to take.
  • 6. We shall not officiate in Nikkah wherein the groom is confirmed as non- Muslim.
  • 7. We shall discourage imposition of burden or inconvenience on the newly married couples.
  • 8. Where proposed and agreed by intending couples and their families, we subscribe to conducting multiple Nikkah at the same venue at the same time.
  • 9. In conducting / participating in Nikkah, we shall be time-conscious and not associate with anything alcoholic
  • 10. We shall promote activities that disseminate knowledge on Nikkah and promote love and compassion between couples.
  • 11. We shall follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah in matrimonial dispute resolutions and, if necessary, marital dissolution.

CHILDREN POLICY


A. Policy Objectives:
  • 1. To raise pious children on the natural way of Islam.
  • 2. To prevent innovations and foreign ideas from polluting child-naming and rearing.
  • 3. To sustain the process of establishing an ideal and flourishing Muslim community.

B. Policy Statement:
Al Usrah Inc. shall engage in naming and post-naming activities as commanded in the glorious Qur’an and exemplified by the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

C. Policy Implications:
  • 1. We shall take steps to orientate and educate parents on correct ways to rearing children.
  • 2. We shall not impose unnecessary burdens on the parents of the newly born child.
  • 3. Naming ceremonies shall be conducted with due consideration to time.
  • 4. We shall educate our children through leadership by example and admonition.
  • 5. We shall not kill our children for fear of want.
  • 6. We subscribe to and shall actively promote sexuality education among our youths
  • 7. We subscribe to life-saving abortion that is prescribed by a scrupulous medical expert in a recognized medical center.
  • 8. We shall not participate in ceremonies not sanctioned by our faith such as birthdays.
  • 9. In conducting / participating in child ceremonies, we shall be time-conscious and not associate with anything alcoholic.
  • 10. We shall engage in activities that promote children’s awareness socially, physically and educationally.

    FINANCIAL TRANSACTION POLICY


    A. Policy Objectives:
    • 1. To encourage brotherhood and mutual support
    • 2. To promote financial empowerment and eradication of poverty among Muslims
    • 3. To minimize rancor and disagreements arising from failed financial relationships.

    B. Policy Statement:
    Al Usrah Inc. shall encourage financial transactions among her members both individually and group-wise as commanded in the glorious Qur’an and exemplified by the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

    C. Policy Implications:
    • 1. We shall engage/invest only in halal (lawful) transactions
    • 2. We shall buy and sell with full measurement
    • 3. We shall discharge and encourage others to discharge trusts faithfully
    • 4. We shall document business transactions
    • 5. Business transactions within members shall be witnessed and signed appropriately in accordance with Qur’an 2: 282
    • 6. We strongly encourage that member(s) Al Usrah leadership witness to financial transactions at the setting up stage.
    • 7. We shall promote activities that disseminate knowledge on financial transactions and worthy ventures.
    • 8. Disputes shall be referred to the Al Usrah leadership for amicable settlement. Members shall not rush to seek redress through external agencies without exhausting the opportunities within the ummah.
    • 9. We shall encourage members to write their Wills. These Policies were adopted by the Central Working Committee of Al Usrah Inc.
